Don't miss this weekend-long celebration of printmaking

Congratulations to Powerhouse Arts and Fine Arts Baltimore (FAB) on the inaugural Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair! This new addition to the NYC art fair schedule features an array of exhibitors and programs to celebrate the print community while fostering opportunities for artists, publishers, galleries, and collectors.
Happening March 27 - 30 at Powerhouse Arts, the Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair showcases 41 international print-focused art galleries; 28 self-representing artists and book arts makers; six local academic print departments; as well as talks, tours, demonstrations, and more!
The VIP opening party on Thursday evening was buzzing with print lovers and collectors excited to catch a preview before the fair officially opens to the public on Friday. See below for programs scheduled throughout the weekend.


Friday through Sunday, master printer Phil Sanders will lead tours of the fair, introducing participants to exhibitors and dropping printmaking knowledge along the way. Tours are free with entry but are first come, first served, with a limit of 20 participants each. Meet in the Grand Hall near the main lounge.

Hello, Print Friend / Platemark BYO Coffee Meet-Up
Get your caffeine fix before the fair! Join printmaking podcast hosts Miranda Metcalf (Hello, Print Friend) and Ann Shafer (Platemark) for an informal BYO coffee meet-up.

Stone Lithograph Workshop with Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop
Robert Blackburn Printmaking Studio’s printer Fiacco will lead participants in a hands-on stone lithography demonstration. Robert Blackburn (1920-2003) was a pioneer in collaborative printmaking who helped revive and expand access to stone lithography. The Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop is the oldest and longest-running community print shop in the country!

Culture, Climate, and Conflict with Rob Swainston and Zorawar Sidhu, moderated by Lane Sell
Artists and collaborators Rob Swainston and Zorawar Sidhu will discuss their politically-charged woodcuts and their process with Lane Sell of Shoestring Press.

Relief X Screenprint: Commemorative Poster Demonstration with Carlos Hernandez and Bill Fick
Carlos Hernandez (Director of Burning Bones Press in Houston, Texas) and Bill Fick (Super G Print Lab in Durham, North Carolina) will demonstrate how they collaborate on a commemorative poster using screenprinting and linocut, plus explain how they work together to generate designs that celebrate their cross-country Printmaking Roadshow. Snag a free, limited edition, pre-printed poster commemorating the inaugural Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair!

Creating an Evil Print with Tom Hück
Evil Prints’ Tom Hück will demonstrate carving and printing one of his monumental woodcuts.

Reimagining Du Bois: Data Portraits and Contemporary Print with William Villalongo, Shraddha Ramani, and Tiffany Barber
Artist William Villalongo and urbanist Shraddha Ramani discuss their collaborative portfolio, Printing Black America: Du Bois’s Data Portraits in the 21st Century, with scholar/curator Tiffany Barber. Villalongo and Ramani's work examines contemporary Black life by reimagining W.E.B. Du Bois’s iconic 1900 data visualizations that explain institutionalized racism.

Print vs. Posters: A Battle Royale with Nicholas Lowry and Angelina Lippert
Angelina Lippert (Poster House Executive Director and Curator) chats with Nicholas Lowry (President and Principal Auctioneer of Swann Auction Galleries) about the differences between a poster and a print. Known for their humor and banter, alongside their incredible knowledge of poster history, the pair will delight with their debate.
The Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair also gives visitors the opportunity to tour Powerhouse Arts' in-house fabrication facilities, offering a behind the scenes look into the organization's state-of-the-art shops and studios.
Based in Gowanus in a formerly abandoned Brooklyn Rapid Transit power station, the non-profit is home to a network of artists, fabricators, and educators who collaborate and co-create. The organization offers 170,000 square feet of fabrication space for ceramics, print, and public art production.
